One of the TV shows that has been recently competing with The Walking Dead is Game of Thrones, an epic fantasy series produced for HBO. Both shows are extremely successful, and both shows are adapted from a book series. In this blog post we’d like to write a few words about Game of Thrones.

Firstly, Game of Thrones is produced for HBO and it isn’t available neither on Netflix nor on Hulu Plus (and it isn’t likely that it will ever be in their library). One of the most important factors contributing to the success of this show are actors (such as incredible Peter Dinklage, and many children actors), the plot (extremely complicated, but extremely interesting at the same time), beautiful locations and the fact that it’s as violent, sexual, and clever as the book series. Since we also write about book series here, we’d like to write a few words about “A Song of Ice and Fire”. Firstly, we believe that it’s the best fantasy series ever. George R.R. Martin is a genius when it comes to creating likable characters that aren’t either perfectly white or perfectly black characters. Secondly, it’s suuuuuper long, and that makes it much more complicated, and much more captivating. Lastly, George is a master of cliffhangers and character development. If you’ve watched the show, check the book as soon as possible. And if you’re a fan of the book, check the TV show. Have fun!

When it comes to reality TV series, we really enjoy good survival shows. There are a couple of series especially worth noting and in this article we’d like to share with you two of these shows. Here they are:

1. Survivorman

Survivorman is a Canadian show developed by Les Stroud. Les Stroud is a survival expert who goes to seven days to the wilderness with camera gear with no camera crew. He films everything himself which means that you can’t get a more authentic show than this one (if there’s a TV crew around, it isn’t that dangerous nor realistic). One of the most remarkable aspects of this series is that Les, in addition to his (scarce) survival gear also has to carry 40 pounds of camera gear which makes his survival even more difficult. Unfortunately, besides for 4 special episodes that were released in 2012 it seems that the show has been discontinued. Well, even though we like some shows, we have to learn how to move on just like after a breakup, right?

2. Dual Survival

Dual Survival shows how two survival experts with a completely different approach to survival may cooperate to survive together. In the first two seasons, these experts were Cody Lundin (a barefoot guy who believes in a traditional way of doing things) and Dave Canterbury (an ex-military survival expert). In season three, Cody’s co-host is Joe Teti, an ex-special ops veteran (if you want to learn why Dave had to be replaced by Joe, here’s an article that explains it well: Dual Survival Cancelled). What we like the most about this show is that it shows two ways of doing things so that you can learn something new from each of the hosts. We also heard some good things about shows by Ray Mears. We watched a couple of these shows, but they weren’t as entertaining as the series listed above. In addition to watching these shows, we also simply recommend you get out to the closest wilderness and spend there even just a few hours. Yeah, you should take a break from watching TV shows for a while. Who knows, maybe you’ll add surviving in the wilderness for 7 days to your bucket list or become a survival skills expert yourself?

You care about the characters from the show (and it’s such a pity every time one of your favorite characters dies!).

3. Production and plot

The Walking Dead isn’t a low-budget TV series and you can easily tell that when watching the show. The plot is loosely based on a comic book series of the same name (that’s also a bestseller), and it’s very interesting. You can never tell what’s going to happen next. Moreover, you can’t expect your favorite characters to live forever – many (even main) characters die very soon.
